Concerts and Such: DESTIN CONRAD-The Submissive Tour

Tonight is the night I saw Destin Conrad at a new venue Sixth & I. I’ve never been to a show at that venue before and I found it interesting that it was here vs The Fillmore, 9:30 Club or even Songbyrd. Tickets were a decent price so I had a feeling sales wise he would do well and he actually sold out of general admission tickets. (There was an option for a meet and greet that I found to be pricey so I decided to pass on that). The venue emailed instructions upon arrival and one thing they noted was to not bring a lot of things so I took what I needed in my pockets. Doors were at 7pm and the show was expected to start at 8pm. He does have an opener Amaria (who apparently is his best friend and they’re from the same city).

In typical me fashion I didn’t leave the house when I said I was going to (7pm) rather 7:10pm. It took no time to get there but I knew parking would take me some time. Well lucky me because I managed to pull up right out front to an empty spot and took it (it was literally right across the street). You enter in downstairs and walk upstairs once past security and after getting your ticket scanned. I noticed also the ticket said “seating was limited” and I got excited at the fact that there were seats and that I had an option to sit. Inside it lookes like a small church (as it is a jewish synagogue) with curved pews and I found an empty spot in the middle on the end (perfect).

Looking around at the crowd I see a lot of young (20’s mostly) black kids with a good mix between male and female. The show started at 8:04pm (which is pretty good very close to on time) with Amaria. I’ve never heard of her before but by her 3rd song suddenly the sound was “sounding” and vibrating the floors and pews. She tried to sing through it but she couldn’t and at a point had to stop briefly so they could fix the sound. It was a bit drafty inside so I kept my coat on as I felt like the air was right on me and this was making me sleepy (I get sleepy when I’m cold). When they fixed the sound I felt more alert and was able to hear her last 4 songs very clearly and she was good (I’m definitely going to put her on my radar). Even though I didn’t know who she was, I’m glad a good bit of the audience seemed to know her (sidenote I found a song by her in my playlist).

It was time for Destin and he came out singing Mariposo and throughout the night you could tell this crowd knew his music. Every song he performed the crowd seemed to get louder and louder. Up towards the front people began spilling out of their pews so they could have more room in the aisle. He sang every song that I think I know that he has and he has great stage presence. I was on the older side amongst the crowd but I still managed to have a good time and enjoy myself. He had a superfan in the rows behind me as she screamed his name and how much she loved him throughout the night (drawing everyone’s attention but his-I don’t know why she just didn’t go up to the stage as there was space to get closer). Of course the rest of the night was spent standing, dancing and singing. I’m glad I decided to go out tonight and it’s good to see Destin has quite the fan base and I hope it continues to grow and that he continues putting out good music.

(P.S. My friend told me today she bought us Usher tickets for August!)
