Concerts and Such: Lucky Daye: The Algorithm Tour

Last night I got the opportunity to finally see Lucky Daye in concert at the MGM. One thing that I learned in the process, this time around is that Ticketmaster charges their service fees whether you buy your ticket at the box office or online, it is included regardless (it didn’t use to be this way this is just another greedy grab for them-no wonder they are being sued by the government). Anyway, the show was to begin at 8pm and I debated if I wanted to go straight from work or if I wanted to stop by the house 1st and due to time I ended up just going on there since I was already out.

It was near 8pm and I found myself near the MGM not thinking much of it. My silly self assumed I would just roll up in the parking garage and park as usual. Well thanks to the police over by the MGM they blocked off the parking entrances for all the people who were coming from in town (and there were a lot of us) which you can assume caused confusion and yes unnecessary traffic. We had to go all the way around through The Harbor and in doing that could see the traffic we would be stuck in on the other side.

Now I told you all I was over in the area around 8pm, from 8pm-8:41pm I sat in touch and go traffic. By 8:41pm I hadn’t even parked yet but said forget it and parked over across the street by Tanger Outlets which was actually a suggestion an officer gave. I walked from Tanger to MGM thinking that was definitely the best option otherwise I knew I’d probably risk missing the show fooling around waiting to get into the parking garage and then trying to find a spot. I took the rest of my lunch with me and ate that before going in. Just getting there and parking had been a truly stressful experience unnecessarily so.

I went inside, showed my ticket and saw how the show was sold out. They opened the entire floor for general admission (GA) and some people were seated higher up. Literally the moment I walked towards the GA floor is when the lights went low, music began and Lucky Daye came out (the time was 9:15pm). I believe his opener was Fana Hues whom I’ve heard of and have on my playlist but I don’t know if she actually performed or not (if she did I clearly missed her).

One thing I have to give props to Lucky Daye on is he sang a range of his songs from different albums (although most were from his latest album which is good by the way). I think what shocked me is that the first song he performed is my favorite from the album called “Pin” and at one point he performed my favorite song by him overall called “Misunderstood”. I found a good point in the back centered that allowed me the opportunity to see him (plus there was a large screen on the right and left side showing him onstage).

Lucky Daye danced and sang all over that stage that it was somewhat hard to keep up with him. It was good to see a mix of young and older there to see him as well as all races. The group to my right were young loud girls there to sing their hearts out while taking photoshoots of themselves for the gram. The group to my left were a group of young friends as well they just weren’t as loud. In front of me were older couples that danced and sang along. He performed a straight set show and sang all of my favorites from his latest album which include the already mentioned “Pin”, “Algorithm”, “Think Different”, “Breakin’ the Bank” and “Diamonds In Teal” (I also like “Blame” and “Paralyzed”).

As he sang more clothes came off and he did a song where he invited a woman onstage and sang and flirted with her like a lot of these male artists do nowadays and the crowd went wild. The girls to the right were like, “She don’t know what to do with that but I do, I can show you.” They were funny but there were times where they were a bit too much. Lucky Daye did a job well done by giving an overall performance of his hits and latest. A true artist I’m happy to say I’ve finally seen him live. The show was now over and I took the journey walking back to my car which I would’ve rather done than the parking fiasco there.

I really felt like I would’ve missed the beginning of his performance had I waited trying to park in the venue which I’m still glad I didn’t do. In the future I might just automatically park at Tanger if I ever have to go see a show there again. The funny thing is though, I’ve been to shows there and did not have that parking issue so I don’t know when they began incorporating this new thing. I took the city route home as I figured the highway might get congested with people leaving. The next show will be SiR in Raleigh, NC on Wednesday this week (yes, your girl is going on a road trip).
